CLARIN Café: A new CLARIN Resource Family for Lexical Semantic Change Research

Publication Date: 2023-06-20

We are happy to announce the next CLARIN Café: A new CLARIN Resource Family for Lexical Semantic Change Research, which will take place on July 5 between 2:00-4:00 PM on Zoom.

The field of lexical semantic change (LSC) has attracted growing interest recently. However, the available resources and tools to conduct this type of research are currently scattered across different CLARIN Resource Families (CRF) or are not even included in any CRF at all.

In this CLARIN Café a new resource will be presented. The resource was built by Barbara McGillivray (King’s College London), Fahad Khan (CNR-ILC) and Paola Marongiu (University of Neuchâtel) in collaboration with CLARIN, CLARIN-IT and CLARIN-UK. During the event, the creators of this resource will share about their groundwork for the creation of a new CRF for LSC research. As their preliminary work mainly focuses on historical languages, and Latin in particular, they would like to solicit contributions from the CLARIN community to cover further languages. The event will be accompanied by a tutorial document, explaining how the components of the CRF can be used for LSC research for the CLARIN website.

This event is suitable for the entire CLARIN and CLARIN-CH community, and especially researchers in the field of diachronic semantics, annotation of word senses, and the construction of resources and tools for research on lexical semantics and LSC.
