SUMMARY:Reusing Data for Teaching and Secondary Analyses
DESCRIPTION:How can existing linguistic data be effectively reused for teaching purposes and secondary analyses? This 90-minute workshop introduces strategies and best practices for integrating openly available linguistic datasets into university-level teaching and research. Drawing on the example of a Master’s course where students learn to build and analyze corpora using real-world data from public repositories\, the workshop will provide practical insights and tools. \nIn the workshop\, we will explore available data infrastructures (e.g.\, CLARIN resources)\, try out corpus-linguistic tools\, and collaboratively design small-scale reuse scenarios for teaching or research contexts. DESCRIPTION:The Swiss Society of Linguistics (SSG/SSL) announces its Online Brown Bag Lunch\, which will take place on 13 June 2025 from 12 pm to 1 pm. The event will focus on the linguistic landscape of Switzerland and will feature talks by Prof. Dr. Adrian Leemann (Dialäktatlas) of the University of Bern and Prof. Dr. Mathieu Avanzi (Dis-voir) of the University of Neuchâtel. The Brown Bag Lunch is open to the public. This will be followed by the Annual Assembly of the SSG/SSL (1 to 2 pm)\, which is reserved for society members. \nYou can join the event online on Zoom.
