SUMMARY:CLARIN-CH Day 2025
DESCRIPTION:From challenges to progress: FAIR compliance and digital methods across the lifecycle of language data\nFor more detailled information visit this page: \nCLARIN-CH Day 2025\nCLARIN-CH Day 2025 continues the dialogue initiated during the CLARIN-CH Day 2024 edition\, bringing together researchers\, data specialists\, and legal experts to explore the evolving landscape of Open Research Data in linguistics and related disciplines. \nThis year’s event will focus on two central themes: advancing FAIR compliance (Findable\, Accessible\, Interoperable\, Reusable) for language data and tools\, and integrating digital methods and tools to support researchers at every stage of the data lifecycle—from data creation and curation to sharing and reuse. \n \nThe event will revisit the key challenges identified in 2024 and will provide a platform for researchers to present newly emerging challenges encountered in working with language data\, both within and beyond linguistic research. \nThrough project updates\, data pitches\, expert panels\, and collaborative discussions\, CLARIN-CH Day 2025 aims to deepen the exchange between communities\, spotlight innovative tools and solutions\, and strengthen the infrastructure and support network for responsible and sustainable data practices within the CLARIN-CH ecosystem. \nFor more information\, the programme\, submission\, and registration visit this page: \nCLARIN-CH Day 2025

SUMMARY:Swiss FRILS planning workshop
DESCRIPTION:The workshop proceeds in three phases. \n\nIn the morning session (10.00-12.00)\, we will outline the context and goals of the workshop\, report on work done so far in the swissuniversities context (Roadmap and Open Research Data program) and collect feedback from workshop participants.\nAfter lunch\, we will organize two parallel sessions of group discussions (13.30-14.15\, 14.15-15.00) on four topics:  We will reflect on infrastructure demands and strategic planning at a national level\, discuss possible ways for further institutions to get involved in the Swiss FRILS proposal (by joining with an existing or planned infrastructure in the application or making use of services provided by Swiss FRILS) and address issues related to governance and funding.\nAfter a short coffee break (15.00-15.15)\, we will discuss the results of the group work and make decisions about further steps (15.15-16.00).\n\nThe event can be attended on site (room 402\, fourth floor of the USI main building on the West campus) or via Zoom. SUMMARY:Digital infrastructure for Language Data in Switzerland: current state and perspectives
DESCRIPTION:The members of the one-year project “Moving towards a national FAIR-compliant ecosystem of Federated Infrastructure for Language Data” (FAIR-FI-LD\, co-funded through swissuniversities Open Science I program\, Open Research Data) invite interested researchers\, data stewards and other experts to attend a workshop dedicated to the existing infrastructure for language data in Switzerland and future perspectives of development. The project members will present their findings and dialogue with further invited speakers to address epistemological and technical challenges of managing and interconnecting digital infrastructure for language data within and beyond Switzerland. \nThe presentations will regard three topics: \n\nThe design of corpus infrastructure to suit diverse language data and different research paradigms in linguistics and beyond\nCase studies featuring recent linguistic corpora collected in Switzerland\nInteroperability issues regarding metadata\, formats\, database design and query languages\n\nThe workshop is organised by Johanna Miecznikowski and Elena Battaglia (USI) on behalf of FAIR-FI-LD\, a collaboration between University of Zurich (CLARIN-CH and LiRI)\, ZHAW (Digital Discourse Lab) and USI (Istituto di studi italiani\, E-Lab). \nA detailed schedule can be found here. \nThe event takes place on site. Please register until June 9th using the workshop’s registration form. \nRead more on the workshop page.

SUMMARY:Reusing Data for Teaching and Secondary Analyses
DESCRIPTION:How can existing linguistic data be effectively reused for teaching purposes and secondary analyses? This 90-minute workshop introduces strategies and best practices for integrating openly available linguistic datasets into university-level teaching and research. Drawing on the example of a Master’s course where students learn to build and analyze corpora using real-world data from public repositories\, the workshop will provide practical insights and tools. \nIn the workshop\, we will explore available data infrastructures (e.g.\, CLARIN resources)\, try out corpus-linguistic tools\, and collaboratively design small-scale reuse scenarios for teaching or research contexts. The session combines input\, demonstration\, and hands-on exercises – and encourages open exchange of ideas and experiences. \n \n\nSpeaker: Julia Krasselt\n\nPlease note that we need your e-mail address in order to give you access to the demo environment: \nRegister now \nThe Zoom link will be sent to participants upon registration. \n\nDownload or watch the recording and slides of the session:\nRecording\nSlides \n

In this workshop\, participants will gain an overview of SWISSUbase and the LaRS ecosystem\, along with essential guidance on preparing data for publication in line with the FAIR principles and the LaRS data policy. Metadata harvesting by the CLARIN Virtual Language Observatory\, which facilitates the discovery of linguistic resources across Europe\, will also be covered. The session will conclude with a practical component that walks participants through the submission interface and workflows\, enabling them to gain a clear understanding of how to publish their own data on LaRS. \n \nSpeakers: Stefanie Strebel and Christian Futter (UZH Library) \nPlease note that we need your e-mail address in order to give you access to the demo environment: 📝 Register now \nThe Zoom link will be sent to participants upon registration. \n\nDownload or watch the recording and slides of the session:\nRecording\nSlides
