SUMMARY:Webinar on the Protection of Personal and Sensitive data: Technical aspects
DESCRIPTION:We are happy to announce the webinar Protection of Personal and Sensitive data: Technical aspects\, which is organised within the CLARIN-CH Working Group Management of Sensitive and Personal data\, Ethical and Legal issues for linguistic data. \n\nIn this talk\, participants learn about the technical aspects of how to handle sensitive and personal data securely according data protection laws applicable in Switzerland and what technical measure could be applied when working collaboratively in cloud environments for secure processing of data. \nShubham Kapoor is a seasoned computer scientist by training\, and has been working in IT industry since 2012. Shubham currently works as Lead for BioMedIT Research IT services at SIB. His ongoing work involves architecting & offering Trusted Research Environments to the researchers in Switzerland where they can gather & analyse sensitive data responsibly. He specialises in Cloud Computing\, HPC & Information Security. \nSergio Maffioletti is a group leader at the Scientific IT Services at ETH Zurich. He is responsible for the implementation and the operation of the LeoMed Trusted Research Environment which is the Zurich node of the BioMedIT infrastructure. After his doctorate in computer science at the University of Fribourg\, Sergio worked at the Swiss National Supercomputing Center where he developed competences in High Performance and Grid computing. He joined the University of Zurich as project director of the Grid Computing Competence Center and then joined the S3IT support group where he managed several initiatives for establishing national academic e-infrastructure. In August 2019 he joined the Scientific IT Services (SIS) at the ETH Zurich as group leader of the Research IT Platform group. \nThe recording and slides of the webinar can be accessed here: 💻 Recording 📄 Slides \nThis webinar is part of a series of webinars\, which are taking place monthly during spring 2024 and the autumn semester. Discover the list of webinars here.

SUMMARY:Webinar on Personal and Sensitive Data: Overview of anonymisation tools
DESCRIPTION:We are happy to announce the webinar Overview of anonymisation tools\, which is organised within the CLARIN-CH Working Group Management of Sensitive and Personal data\, Ethical and Legal issues for linguistic data. \n\nInformation on the event\nDate: 22 March 2024\nTime: 12:00-1PM\nLocation: Zoom (click here to access the webinar)\nFormat: 30 minutes of talk\, 30 minutes of Q & A\nSpeakers: Melanie Röthlisberger (UB Zürich)\, Matthias Templ (FHNW) \nMelanie Röthlisberger is a linguist by training and a member of the Open Science Services at the University Library Zurich. She advices researchers on legal aspects and how to share sensitive and personal data. She also teaches courses on how to publish sensitive and personal data to researchers at the University of Zurich. \nMatthias Templ is Professor of Statistics at the FHNW and author and maintainer of the R package sdcMicro. He is currently leading an SNSF Bridge Discovery project on the anonymization and synthesis of longitudinal data. Together with colleagues\, he runs the Swiss Anonymisation Centre: https://www.swissanon.ch \nAbstract: In the first part of this talk\, Melanie Röthlisberger (Open Science Services\, University of Zurich) gives a brief overview over different anonymization tools and focuses on one tool in more detail: QualiAnon is an anonymization tool for qualitative textual data. The tool was developed by Qualiservice in cooperation with Pangaea to enable researchers to anonymize or pseudonymize their research data semi-automatically in a structured way. In the second part of the talk\, Matthias Templ\, developer of sdcMicro\, will give insights into his R-package that can be used to anonymize structured quantitative data on individual units\, such as people\, households\, or organizations. Most functionalities of the package are also available via an interactive shiny-based graphical user interface. \n➡️ The slides from the webinar can be accessed here: 📄 Part 1 📄 Part 2 \nThis webinar is part of a series of webinars\, which are taking place monthly during spring 2024 and the autumn semester. Discover the list of planned webinars here.

DESCRIPTION:We are happy to announce the webinar Protection of personal and sensitive linguistic data: Legal aspects\, which is organised within the CLARIN-CH Working Group Management of Sensitive and Personal data\, Ethical and Legal issues for linguistic data. \n \n\n\n\n\n\nInformation on the event\n\n\n\n\nDate: 26 February 2024\nTime: 12:00-1PM\nLocation: Zoom (click here to access the webinar)\nTopic: Protection of personal and sensitive linguistic data: Legal aspects\nFormat: 30 minutes of talk\, 30 minutes of Q & A\nSpeaker: Brian Kleiner (FORS) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThis webinar is the first of a series of webinars\, which are taking place monthly during the 2024 spring and the autumn semester. Discover the list of webinars here. \nBio and expertise: Brian Kleiner is a linguist by training. Since 2008\, he is head of Data and Research Information for the Social Sciences at FORS. As head of data services at FORS\, his ongoing work involves the provision of research infrastructure and services to support work and data sharing in the social sciences in Switzerland. He specializes in research data management topics\, such as data security\, informed consent\, and anonymization. \nAbstract: Many types of empirical linguistic data are particularly difficult to share with third parties\, due to the personally identifying information that they often contain. This puts linguists in a bind – how to respect data sharing requirements from funders and journals while at the same time comply with data protection laws? This webinar presents the stakes around this tension\, as well as some concrete solutions and recommendations for linguistics researchers working in Switzerland who are thinking about sharing their data. Specifically\, a “layered” approach to legal compliance is put forward\, which balances aspects of informed consent\, anonymisation\, and access controls\, according to the nature of one’s data and dissemination goals. \nThe recording and slides of the webinar can be accessed here: 💻 Recording 📄 Slides
