SUMMARY:CLARIN-CH Trainings 2025: Introductory Session
DESCRIPTION:This introductory session of our CLARIN-CH Training Sessions 2025 will provide an overview of the CLARIN-CH ecosystem of infrastructures\, highlighting their role in supporting research involving language resources and language technology. Participants will gain insights into the various infrastructures available within CLARIN-CH and how they facilitate Open Research Data (ORD) practices in language research. Each of the infrastructures will be further addressed\, both from a theoretical and a hands-on perspective\, in dedicated sessions during March-June 2025. \n \nThe Zoom link will be sent to participants upon registration: Sign up for the training sessions \nTopics covered in the introductory session:\n1. What is CLARIN-CH? \n2. The Importance of ORD and FAIR in Language Research \n\nOpen Science\, Open Research Data (ORD) and FAIR (Findable\, Accessible\, Interoperable\, Reusable) data\nHow ORD and FAIR practices enhance reproducibility\, trust\, collaboration and data sharing (e.g. linking your research data to your scientific paper)\nHands-on: analysis of case studies\n\n3. Overview of the CLARIN-CH ecosystem of infrastructures \n\nThe LiRI Corpus Platform\nThe swissdox@LiRI media database\nZHAW Swiss-AL\nLanguage Repository of Switzerland (LaRS) and the SWISSUbase repository\nThe CLARIN-CH Documentation Platform\nIntroduction to key ORD projects\, such as UpLORD and FAIR-FI-LD\, and their main outcomes:\n\n– Metadata interoperability and harvesting by CLARIN Virtual Language Observatory\n– Curation workflow by LaRS team\n– Standard data formats\n– CLARIN Federated Content Search technology\n– Videoscope @ USI \n4. Challenges and solutions of ORD and FAIR for Language Data \n\nHandling sensitive and complex linguistic data\, including ethical and legal considerations\nBig volume of data\nLack of training and time for appropriate data management and data curation\nEncouraging researchers and institutions to engage with CLARIN-CH\n\nWho should attend?\nThis session is designed for researchers using language data\, irrespective of scientific discipline\, sub-field of linguistics or approach\, as well as data stewards\, who want to learn more about the CLARIN-CH research data ecosystem and its tools. \nBy the end of the session\, participants will have a clearer understanding of how to navigate the CLARIN-CH infrastructures\, apply ORD principles effectively\, and address challenges in language data management. This will make your life much easier when publishing your data and when write your DMP. \nGo to the registration form \n\nDownload or watch the recording and slides of the session:\nRecording\nSlides

SUMMARY:LiRI Corpus Platform: Data Model and Query
DESCRIPTION:The LiRI Corpus Platform (LCP) was developed to host and query large data sets of annotated texts and multimedia content. LCP can accomodate a broad variety of corpora; in the context of Open Research Data\, users are encouraged to import and share their data with LCP. In this session\, participants will get familiar with LCP by looking at existing corpora: how their annotations are represented and how they can be queried. This will lead to a discussion about data preparation\, not only from the perspective of the platform’s technical specifications\, but also and as importantly from the end user’s perspective\, so as to facilitate their querying and\, ultimately\, their extracting of the information that you are sharing with them. \nPlease note that the Zoom link will be sent to participants upon registration: \n📝 Register now \n \nGo to the overview of the CLARIN-CH Training Sessions 2025 \n\nDownload or watch the recording and slides of the session:\nRecording\nSlides

SUMMARY:Querying and Analysing Swiss media data with Swissdox@LiRI
DESCRIPTION:LiRI collaborates with SMD (Schweizer Mediendatenbank AG) to provide researchers with access to Swissdox\, a comprehensive database containing approximately 24 million media articles (press\, online) from a wide range of Swiss media sources spanning multiple decades. \nIn this session\, participants will learn how to navigate the Swissdox@LiRI platform\, explore its search functions\, and refine queries to retrieve and download relevant media data. In addition\, the session includes a hands-on introduction to basic analytical approaches in Python\, demonstrating how Swissdox data can be processed and examined for research purposes. \nSwissdox@LiRI is a paid service\, but for this training session\, we will provide access to a selection of sample data in German and French. This allows participants who are not affiliated with a supporting institution to test the platform’s functionalities. We will also discuss the different subscription options available\, including low-cost\, short-term access for individual research projects. \nPlease note that the Zoom link will be sent to participants upon registration: \n📝 Register now \n\nDownload or watch the recording and slides of the session:\nRecording\nSlides
