-**Bio:** Thomas Schmidt is a linguist specializing in spoken language corpora, corpus technology, and computational lexicography. After studying in Kaiserslautern, Mainz, Edinburgh, Berlin and Paris and obtaining his PhD from the University of Dortmund, he worked as a researcher at the University of Hamburg, the International Computer Science Institute in Berkeley, the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Science, the Institute of the German Language and the University of Basel. For ten years, he was head of the Archive for Spoken German. He is now working as an independent consultant and software developer at http://linguisticbits.de .+The talk will give an overview of experience gained in over 20 years with the **management of sensitive and personal data in the field of spoken language corpora**. The first part will recapitulate the basic legal and organisational conditions that apply to the work with spoken language corpora. Based on a number of case studies from the Archive of Spoken German, the second part will then discuss **details of legal agreements and technical implementation of data protection issues** for specific corpora. This includes a demonstration of technological means for de-identifying sensitive data in audio, video and transcripts.
