Online Social Data School (SDS): Applications now open

Publication Date: 2025-02-04

The Social Data School (SDS), organized by Cambridge Digital Humanities, is taking place online between 23 June โ€“ 1 July 2025 and is now open for applications from individuals working in the media, academia, civil society organisations, trade unions, the public sector and industry. The programme equips participants with the skills and knowledge to conduct data-driven investigations in the public interest.

Focussing on machine learning and the investigation of environmental issues, this online version of the Social Data School is curated in partnership with journalists at the Pulitzer Center, who have been developing cutting-edge technologies to carry out impactful investigations.

Over nine days of intensive virtual learning, participants will explore the lifecycle of a digital project and investigate the methods used to create, visualise, and analyse digital data. In collaboration with leading academic researchers and practitioners, the Data School team has designed a teaching and learning experience which incorporates lectures, digital tools demonstrations, workshops, group work and more. Through this varied programme of activities, participants will not only develop their technical skills, but also engage with critical questions about data in society.

Q&A Session

Tuesday, 4 March 14:00 โ€“ 14:45: The Q&A Session gives potential participants the opportunity to learn more about the content of the Data School and the application process. It will be hosted by Dr. Irving Huerta (Data Schools Convenor, Cambridge Digital Humanities) and Dr. Anne Alexander (Director of Learning, Cambridge Digital Humanities).
