Swiss Federal Council approves Switzerland joining CLARIN ERIC

CLARIN-CH has reached another milestone on the road to becoming full member of the European Common Language Resources and Technology Infrastructure CLARIN ERIC: On April 9, the Swiss Federal Council decided to join four European research infrastructures – among which is CLARIN.

Switzerland is currently member of seven European Research Infrastructure Consortia (ERIC). After the approval by the Federal Council, four new research infrastructures from the fields of environmental sciences, linguistics, astrophysics, and social sciences will be joined:

  • Aerosol, Clouds, and Trace Gases Research Infrastructure (ACTRIS ERIC)

  • Common Language Resources and Technology Infrastructure (CLARIN ERIC)

  • Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory (CTAO ERIC)

  • European Social Survey (ESS ERIC)

The official press release on the decision is available in three national languages:

CLARIN-CH is proud to be among these research infrastructures and to receive the official approval from the Swiss Federal Council. This decision entails that the State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation (SERI) can now officially apply for Switzerland’s full membership in the European infrastructure, representing a big step ahead on the CLARIN-CH roadmap.
