Call for proposals for the SIG Writing conference 2026

Together with ZHAW, the EARLI Special Interest Group (SIG) Writing invites scholars to submit proposals for the 21st biennial SIG Writing Conference 2026, which will take place from 2 – 4 June 2026, at ZHAW in Winterthur. Predating the conference is the SIG Writing Research School to be held from 29 May – 1 June 2026 in Männedorf. Both the conference and the research school are supported by CLARIN-CH.

This year’s theme is “Writing Research for Writing Practice” exploring the dynamic relationship between research and practice in writing, as well as aiming to highlight how empirical findings, theoretical advances, and methodological innovations can inform and transform writing instruction, assessment, and professional development. The organisers welcome contributions that bridge the gap between research and real-world writing contexts in schools, universities, or workplaces. Although, the conference specifically welcomes submissions within its annual theme, it traditionally hosts a diversity of topics and approaches.

Keynote talks

The 2026 edition of the conference features two keynotes and the Hayes Award Lecture.
  • The professor of education and multilingualism, working on a range of educational issues regarding language learning and teaching in linguistically and culturally diverse classrooms, Vera Busse from the University of Münster (Germany) will hold a keynote speech titled: “Bridging Research and Classroom Practice: Improving Writing in Diverse Primary Classrooms”.
