– Empowering researchers to manage language data effectively through practical, scalable resources and training that meet the evolving demands of academia, funders, and international RDM standards.
Aims
The Working Group (WG) aims to strengthen Research Data Management (RDM) practices across the Swiss linguistic research community by leveraging the expertise of institutional data stewards and research support services. By advancing collaborative development of resources, training, and support, the RDM WG will also focus on improving awareness, capacity, and consistency in managing language data. This effort will lay the foundation for a future CLARIN-CH Training Programme by aligning local existing initiatives with shared national and international goals.
Objectives
- Leverage institutional expertise to develop shared RDM practices: Connect the knowledge of data stewards and research support services across Swiss institutions members of CLARIN-CH to co-create and disseminate guidance, training resources, and domain-specific workflows tailored to language data.
- Promote and standardize best practices in RDM: Identify, document, and share effective RDM practices and tools, contributing to a common baseline of good practices across institutions and enhancing consistency in the management of linguistic data.
- Build skills and advance awareness in RDM: Organize workshops, training sessions, and doctoral school events to:
- Equip researchers and early-career scholars with practical RDM knowledge.
- Promote the value of Data Management Plans (DMPs) in research and projects planning.
- Provide hands-on training for creating and maintaining DMPs.
- Support compliance with funder and institutional requirements.
- Compare and improve DMP tools and templates: Conduct a cross-institutional review of existing DMP tools and templates used in Swiss higher education institutions (HEIs), aiming to identify shared components and recommend user-friendly, interoperable solutions for language researchers.
- Foster strategic collaboration and community engagement: Strengthen cooperation with institutional and national partners—including UZH, ZHAW, SAGW, UNIBAS, UNIFR, USI, UNIGE, UNIL, UNIBE, UNINE, swissrn.org, and doctoral schools—to ensure broad relevance and sustainability of the WG’s outputs.
- Lay the groundwork for a CLARIN-CH Training Programme: Provide a thematic and practical basis and pilot training content to support the development of a long-term, nationally coordinated CLARIN-CH Training Programme in accordance with CLARIN-CH’s long-term strategy for researchers support and infrastructure development.
