The European Summer University in Digital Humanities “Culture and Technology” returns this summer in Besançon, France. Applications are open until 24 May 2026. Researchers and students working at the intersection of humanities and digital methods are encouraged to apply.
The European Summer University in Digital Humanities (ESU DH) “Culture and Technology” will take place from 6 to 18 July 2026 in Besançon, France, hosted by Université Marie et Louis Pasteur.
The summer university brings together students and scholars from the humanities, social sciences, engineering, and computer science for two weeks of workshops, lectures, and project presentations focused on digital methods and their applications in cultural research.
How to Apply
Applications are submitted via ConfTool and must include a combined PDF with a CV and a letter of motivation (500–700 words). In the motivation letter, applicants should outline their research interests, indicate up to three workshop preferences in order of priority, and explain their expectations from the programme. All materials must be submitted in English.

Applicants wishing to present a project may upload a separate project description (500–700 words) via ConfTool. A project presentation is not required for a successful application.
Fees
Fees cover tuition, teaching materials, a certificate of attendance, coffee breaks, lunches, and communal dinners. Travel and accommodation are not included.
- 460 € — Master/PhD students (no employment/scholarship) from partner universities
- 575 € — Young scholars from partner universities; or Master/PhD students from other institutions
- 800 € — Faculty/staff from partner universities; or employed young scholars from other institutions
- 1,260 € — Faculty/staff from other institutions
- 1,800 € — Staff of commercial organisations
