How to Talk to Your Funder: A Funder’s Perspective — CLARIN Café

May 14 @ 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm

The CLARIN Café is an informal and interactive space for discussion where researchers, lecturers, students and experts can meet to share experiences and insights that have a potential relevance for the activities and developments within the context of the CLARIN universe.

Description: In this session, Alice Dijkstra, Senior Policy Advisor at the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO), will share key insights from the funder’s perspective — what to do (and what to avoid) as a researcher seeking sufficient and sustainable research funding.

Target audience: All researchers planning to apply for funding from their research council or ministry. To tailor the session to your needs, please indicate in the registration form where you are located.

Programme

Alice Dijkstra will give a two-part presentation with ample time for interactive aspects, focussing on some personal insights from
(a) former (mostly human language technology) projects/programmes ending with some useful tips for writing funding applications
(b) lessons in talking to policy makers: How do they think? What are their problems? How can you ensure they listen?
