We are pleased to announce that CLARIN has published its official Data Citation Guidelines. As the use and re-use of language resources continues to grow, it has become increasingly important to cite datasets in a consistent and reliable way. Until now, dataset references have varied widely – sometimes pointing to a publication, sometimes to a website or repository landing page. This lack of uniformity has made it difficult to ensure proper attribution for the creators and maintain long-term citability.
The new guidelines define the minimal information required when referencing datasets archived within the CLARIN network. By providing clear instructions on how to include elements such as authors, dataset titles, repository information and persistent identifiers (PIDs), they help ensure that datasets receive the same scholarly recognition as traditional publications.
We encourage all members of the CLARIN-CH community to make use of these guidelines when depositing or citing datasets, thereby supporting good research practice and strengthening the visibility of our shared resources.
