Tour de CLARIN spotlights CLARIN-CH

CLARIN ERIC’s Tour de CLARIN Young Scholars Special Edition featured Switzerland, with an interview with Neuchâtel researcher Melissa Juillet and a Consortium Highlights piece by the Swiss National Coordinator Cristina Grisot. Both are now accessible on the CLARIN website.

Melissa Juillet on learner corpora and data sharing

Melissa Juillet is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Neuchâtel and a researcher at the Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV). Her PhD followed how learners of French as a second language develop interactional competence over time, tracing discourse markers like parce que, tu sais, and en fait.

As co-convenor of the CLARIN-CH Working Group on Swiss learner corpora, she has mapped which learner corpora exist across Switzerland and documented why many cannot be shared. Her interview is a frank account of the ethical and practical hurdles around interactional and multimodal video data, and what better infrastructure could look like.

CLARIN-CH in 2026

In the Consortium Highlights piece, Cristina Grisot sets out how CLARIN-CH is building the infrastructure researchers need to create, manage, share, and reuse language data across SSH disciplines. The current project portfolio spans Open Research Data workflows, FAIR practices, and multimodal and AI-ready resources, from MORCDA and MAVA to DAVALab, EOSC Data Commons, and SENPro.

She also points to the CLARIN-CH working groups and a milestone year: in 2026 CLARIN-CH received its first CLARIN B-certification, shared by the Linguistic Research Infrastructure LiRI and LaRS@SWISSUbase, complementing the K-centre certification ZHAW earned in 2025.
