CLARIN – Common Language Resources and Technology Infrastructure – is a pan-European research infrastructure aiming to render accessible all digital language resources and tools from all over Europe through a single sign-on online environment.
Several Swiss academic institutions have manifested their intention to join CLARIN, first as an Observer member and later as Full member. For this, they have founded the consortium CLARIN-CH on 18 December 2020.
Join the European CLARIN community, and build an active and impactful CLARIN-CH community.
The objectives of the consortium until 2028 are:
✅ Obtain and preserve Switzerland's full membership in CLARIN ERIC and connect the Swiss scientific community with the entire European CLARIN infrastructure.
✅ Foster sharing of expertise and resources at the national and European level.
✅ Bring together the Swiss community creating and using language resources through operating national working groups.
✅ Work together with relevant national infrastructures for the continuous development of the national ecosystem of infrastructures in the spirit of Open Science.
✅ Encourage and facilitate the initiation of national and international collaborations.
✅ Maintain a constructive exchange with similar national and European research infrastructures and networks.
In autumn 2024, the institutions forming the CLARIN-CH Consortium renewed their agreement, extending Switzerland's participation in CLARIN ERIC for the period 2025-2028. This renewal underscores Switzerland’s ongoing commitment to supporting linguistic research and infrastructure at both the national and European levels. The CLARIN-CH Consortium plays a crucial role in connecting Swiss researchers to a pan-European network of language resource experts, facilitating collaborative projects and the exchange of knowledge. The renewed agreement sets clear objectives for the coming years, focusing on strengthening Switzerland’s integration within CLARIN ERIC, fostering national and international collaborations, and advancing Open Science initiatives. By renewing this agreement, CLARIN-CH continues to support the development of a robust national ecosystem for language data and research infrastructure in Switzerland.
