About the LaDaD project

The Language Data Across Disciplines (LaDaD) project, co-funded by swissuniversities, investigates how researchers from a wide range of fields — including medicine, history, theology, and communication — work with language data (text, audio, video) and what skills, tools, and support they need to apply FAIR and Open Research Data (ORD) practices.

The survey

As part of this project, the LaDaD team is conducting a national survey to collect input from researchers working with language data. Your responses will directly inform the development of practical training materials and recommendations for researchers across Switzerland.

  • Completing the survey takes approximately 20 minutes.

The European Summer University in Digital Humanities “Culture and Technology” returns this summer in Besançon, France. Applications are open until 24 May 2026. Researchers and students working at the intersection of humanities and digital methods are encouraged to apply.

The European Summer University in Digital Humanities (ESU DH) “Culture and Technology” will take place from 6 to 18 July 2026 in Besançon, France, hosted by Université Marie et Louis Pasteur.

The summer university brings together students and scholars from the humanities, social sciences, engineering, and computer science for two weeks of workshops, lectures, and project presentations focused on digital methods and their applications in cultural research.

Applications are submitted via ConfTool and must include a combined PDF with a CV and a letter of motivation (500–700 words). In the motivation letter, applicants should outline their research interests, indicate up to three workshop preferences in order of priority, and explain their expectations from the programme. All materials must be submitted in English.

  • Applications open: 23 March 2026
  • Application deadline: 24 May 2026
  • Confirmation of selection: by end of May

Applicants wishing to present a project may upload a separate project description (500–700 words) via ConfTool. A project presentation is not required for a successful application.

Fees cover tuition, teaching materials, a certificate of attendance, coffee breaks, lunches, and communal dinners. Travel and accommodation are not included.

  • 460 € — Master/PhD students (no employment/scholarship) from partner universities
  • 575 € — Young scholars from partner universities; or Master/PhD students from other institutions
  • 800 € — Faculty/staff from partner universities; or employed young scholars from other institutions
  • 1,260 € — Faculty/staff from other institutions
  • 1,800 € — Staff of commercial organisations

CLARIN and DARIAH are proud to support the Helsinki Digital Humanities Hackathon (#DHH26), taking place 20–29 May 2026 at the University of Helsinki. Participation is free, travel and accommodation bursaries are available, and students can earn up to 5 ECTS credits. The application deadline is 14 April 2026.

The Helsinki Digital Humanities Hackathon (#DHH26) is a 10-day interdisciplinary summer school offering participants the chance to experience a digital humanities research project from start to finish. For researchers and students from computer science and data science, it is an opportunity to test abstract knowledge against complex real-life problems. For those from the humanities and social sciences, it demonstrates what becomes possible through cross-disciplinary collaboration.

This year’s hackathon groups are organised around five themes:

  • Parliaments Beyond Borders: Exploring the Role of Foreign Nations in National Policy Debates (using data from CLARIN’s flagship project ParlaMint)
  • Crimes and Punishments: “True Crime” in Britain during the 19th century
  • The Language of Profits: A Multi-Disciplinary Exploration of Corporate and Legal Rhetoric
  • Large-Scale Patterns of Knowledge Production Through the Lens of 200 Million Books Across 600 Years
  • Decoding the System of Finnic Oral Poetry

Participation is free for all accepted participants. Bursaries for travel and lodging are available, and up to 5 ECTS credits can be earned. The event takes place in person at the University of Helsinki.

Cambridge Digital Humanities is offering a new five-day Data School in July 2026 for teachers, researchers, students, and policy makers who want to engage critically and creatively with generative AI in educational contexts. The application deadline is 26 April 2026.

Cambridge Digital Humanities has launched a new Data School, Teaching and Learning Critically in an Age of Generative AI, aimed at anyone interested in exploring the pedagogical, ecological, and social implications of AI in teaching and learning.

The programme runs across five days in July 2026, combining in-person sessions at the University of Cambridge with one online day. Rather than using generative AI as a tool, participants will examine its impacts and processes through games, drawing, paper prototyping, critical creative coding, and collaborative inquiry. No specialist knowledge of AI is required.

The school is open to teachers, educators, researchers, students, leaders, and policy makers from any background.

CLARIN ERIC invites submissions for the CLARIN Annual Conference 2026, taking place in Brighton, UK, on 29 September – 1 October 2026. The submission deadline is 6 April 2026.

The conference brings together the wider Humanities and Social Sciences community to exchange experiences and best practices around the CLARIN infrastructure, covering topics such as the design and operation of the infrastructure, language resources and tools, use cases in research and teaching, and connections to other European initiatives. The event will be fully accessible virtually in addition to the in-person programme.

This workshop is aimed at researchers and data stewardship professionals working with language data, particularly in the context of SNSF-funded projects.

Achieving B-centre status is a rigorous process that evaluates a repository’s technical infrastructure, data management practices, and commitment to Open Science. This certification ensures that researchers in Switzerland and across Europe can confidently deposit, discover, and reuse linguistic data in a sustainable and standardized environment. 

This accomplishment would not have been possible without the incredible dedication and collaborative spirit of our partners and members of the consortium. We want to extend our deepest gratitude and congratulations to the teams at LaRS@SWISSUbase, LiRI, and SWISSUbase. Their technical expertise, strategic guidance, and commitment to FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) data principles were instrumental in reaching this goal.

The 11th Swiss Text Analytics Conference (SwissText 2026) invites submissions of substantial, original, and unpublished research work on Computational Linguistics and Natural Language Processing. SwissText 2026 will take place on June 10th, 2026 in Zurich, Switzerland.

SwissText is an annual conference established in 2016 by the Zurich University of Applied Sciences (ZHAW) that brings together Language AI experts from industry and academia. The SwissText 2026 conference will be organized as a one-day event and will feature the following tracks:

  • Applied Track (non-archival), with a strong focus on industry and applied research.
  • Scientific Track (archival), with technical research papers from the international scientific community, including corpus- and benchmark-related research papers with a focus on Swiss languages from the scientific community and industry.
  • Corpus Track (archival), with Swiss-related NLP datasets.    
  • Demonstration Track (non-archival), with NLP systems presented live at the SwissText conference. 

Note: Abstracts submitted to the Applied Track or Demonstration Track will not be published in the proceedings. If you want your work to be published, please submit a paper to the Scientific Track or Corpus Track.

This year’s special theme is: Reproducible NLP. Therefore, submissions working specifically in reproducible NLP research and fully open NLP are encouraged.

FAIR-by-design learning materials

The training series are conceptualised following the FAIR-by-design methodology developed in skills4EOSC (Filiposka et al. 2024), which consists in taking a systematic approach for conceptualizing each training session, e.g. defining the target audience, the learning objectives and the means to achieve them in each training session, publishing the materials and guides about how to use them, among others. FAIR learning materials enable the reuse of the materials both by learners and by trainers.

Understand Open Science, FAIR and CARE principles in practice 

Participants will be able to explain the Open Science paradigm and the FAIR and CARE principles, and assess their implications for responsible research data management across the full data lifecycle in the arts and humanities, social sciences, language sciences, and GLAM-related research.

 

Navigate and critically use the SSH Open Marketplace 

Participants will be able to confidently navigate the SSH Open Marketplace to discover, evaluate, and select relevant tools, services, datasets, workflows, and training materials for their research needs.

 

Integrate digital resources into research workflows 

Participants will be able to incorporate SSH Open Marketplace resources into discipline-specific research workflows, enhancing transparency, reproducibility, and efficiency in arts and humanities, social sciences, language sciences, and GLAM-related research.
